Interpretation: Difference between radioactive decay and nuclear transmutation should be explained.
Concept Introduction:
Unstable atomic nucleus emits radiation to lose energy; this radiation may be alpha radiation, beta radiation or gamma radiation. So the process of emission of radiation by unstable atomic nucleus is called radioactive decay. Emission of energy in terms of particles or waves is called radiation.
The adaptation of one chemical element from another chemical element by the collision of two particles is called nuclear transmutation. By the nuclear transmutation, number of protons or neutrons in the nucleus is changed.
