Erythropoietin is a protein that enhances the formation of red blood cells, in the bone marrow. This hormone is releases by the kidney of the body when the level of oxygen reduces drastically in the blood. As the red blood cells carry oxygen, the body understands that the concentration of RBCs is low, so it increases the number of the RBCs.
