(a) Which anatomical characteristic ensures that the flow of lymph through a lymph node is slow? (b) Why is this desirable?
(a)
The lymphatic system is a part of the circulatory system and a vital part of the immune
system. It is a network of tubes throughout the body that drains fluid (called lymph)
from tissues and empties it back into the bloodstream.
(i)
Give a brief explanation why the lymphatic system is a one-way system,
whereas the blood vascular system is a two-way system.
(ii)
Point out TWO (2) type of infections that may cause the lymph nodes to swell.
The germinal centers in lymph nodes are sites of (a) the lymph sinuses, (b) proliferating B lymphocytes, (c) T lymphocytes, (d) a and c, (e) all of the above.
