Introduction:
The cardiovascular system of the body is responsible for transporting the oxygen and the nutrients to all the cellular compartments and cells of the body. This system comprises the blood vessels and the heart. The blood vessels comprise the arteries, veins, and the capillaries. The arteries are responsible for carrying blood away from the heart. The veins carry the blood toward to the heart.

- A pulse can be felt in the following arteries: superficial temporal, facial, common carotid, brachial, femoral, popliteal, posterior tibial, and dorsalis pedis (Figure 20.8b). Name the artery from which each artery listed branches. Here is an example to get you started: The superficial temporal artery is a branch of the external carotid artery.arrow_forwardSelect the best answer or answers from the choices given: Which statement does not accurately describe veins? (a) Have less elastic tissue and smooth muscle than arteries, (b) contain more fibrous tissue than arteries, (c) most veins in the extremities have valves, (d) always carry deoxygenated blood.arrow_forwardSelect the best answer or answers from the choices given: Freshly oxygenated blood is first received by the (a) right atrium, (b) left atrium, (c) right ventricle, (d) left ventricle.arrow_forward
- Using the letters from column B, match the artery descriptions in column A. (Note that some require more than a single choice.)arrow_forwardplssssssss helpppppp, Is this a normal coronary artery or not, pls explain why or why not.arrow_forwardName the four unpaired arteries that emerge from the abdominal aorta.arrow_forward
- Identify the major arteries in the following diagram.arrow_forwardMatch each item in column A with the most closely related item in column B. Place letters for answers in the spaces provided.arrow_forwardSelect the best answer or answers from the choices given: Peripheral resistance (a) is inversely proportional to the length of the vascular bed, (b) increases in anemia, (c) decreases in polycythemia, (d) is inversely related to the diameter of the arterioles.arrow_forward
- Select the best answer or answers from the choices given: Tracing the blood from the heart to the right hand, we find that blood leaves the heart and passes through the aorta, the right subclavian artery, the axillary and brachial arteries, and through either the radial or ulnar artery to arrive at the hand.Which artery is missing from this sequence? (a) coronary, (b) brachiocephalic, (c) cephalic, (d) right common carotid.arrow_forwardA pressure point is a place where one presses on an artery through the body surface to stop bleeding more distally. Which of the following sites is not a pressure point for any major artery? (a) the medial bicipital furrow on arm, (b) the sciatic artery in middle of gluteus maximus, (c) the midinguinal point in the femoral triangle.arrow_forwardThe major superficial veins of the arm are the _____ on the medial side and _____ on the lateral side?arrow_forward
