Each compound is to be determined as an alkane, alkene, or alkyne on the basis of their molecular formula.

Concept introduction:

In organic chemistry, alkanes are the compounds that are saturated and contain C-C bonds (carbon-carbon). The molecular formula of an alkane is CnH2n+2.

Alkenes are the compounds that are unsaturated and have at least one double bond between carbons (C=C). The molecular formula of an alkyne is CnH2n-2.

Alkynes are the compounds that have at least one triple bond (CC). The molecular formula of an alkyne is CnH2n-2.
