Question
Chapter 18, Problem 1RQ
To determine
The types of split phase motors.
Expert Solution & Answer
Explanation of Solution
A split phase motor is a type of induction motor which contains a single cage rotor. The two windings of the stator are named as main winding and starting winding. These windings are perpendicular to each other. The coils of startup winding posses fewer number of turns of smaller wire as compared to the main winding. A split phase motor provides much greater starting torque as compared to the shaded pole motors.
The types of split phase motors are named below.
- Resistance start induction run motor
- Capacitor start induction run motor
- Capacitor start capacitor run motor
