To compare: The characteristics of the urine in a child with pyelonephritis, APSGN, or nephrotic syndrome.
Concept introduction: Urine is the product of the excretory system that carries excess water and other excess molecules. Urine is produced after the nephrons of the kidney filter the water in the plasma of the blood. Urinalysis is a simple test used to analyse the urine sample. Pyelonephritis is a condition when infection occurs at one or both of the upper urinary tracts (renal pelvis, ureter, and interstitium). The glomerulonephritis or acute poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis (APSGN) is the inflammation of glomeruli of the kidney. Nephrotic syndrome is a characteristic of glomerular injury (glomerulonephritis).
