The heart wall consists of three layers, namely the epicardium, myocardium, and endocardium. The cardiac muscles in the myocardium contract and relax, thus pumping the blood to the body. The heartconsists of two small, upper receiving chambers called the atria, and two lower, large discharging chambers called the ventricles.
