Concept Introduction:

When alcohol reacts with isocyanate, urethane are obtained.  Urethane is a hydrocarbon derivative.  This contains a carbonyl group that is bonded to OR group and a NHR group.

If the monomer considered is a diisocyanate and dialcohol, polymerization reaction takes place resulting in the formation of polyurethane.  Polyurethanes have the structures of both polyester and polyamides.
