Prices of diamonds are determined by what is known as the 4 Cs: cut, clarity, color, and carat weight. The prices of diamonds go up as the carat weight increases, but the increase is not smooth. For example, the difference between the size of a 0.99-carat diamond and a 1-carat diamond is undetectable to the naked human eye, but the price of a 1-carat diamond tends to be much higher than the price of a 0.99 diamond. In this question, we use two random samples of diamonds, 0.99 carats and 1 carat, each sample of size 23, and compare the average prices of the diamonds. In order to be able to compare equivalent units, we first divide the price for each diamond by 100 times its weight in carats. That is, for a 0.99-carat diamond, we divide the price by 99. For a 1 carat diamond, we divide the price by 100. The distributions and some sample statistics are shown below

Within a certain population, this relationship can be expressed using the formula h represents the expected height in centimeters and f represents the length of the femur in centimeters. What is the meaning of the h-value when f = 39? 63.2 + 2.31f, where h The expected height for someone with a femur length of 39 centimeters. - Šolve the problem. The table shows the percentage of people living below the poverty line in one U.S. city in the years 2000 through 2003. Percentage of people living below poverty line 11.7 Year 2000 2001 13 2002 13.7 2003 13.8 The data in the table can be written as ordered pairs (x, y) where x is the number of years after 2000 and y is the percentage of people living below the poverty line in that year. Use the data for 2000, 2002, and 2003 to find the quadratic function + bx +c that models the percentage, y, of people in this city living below the y= ax2 poverty line x years after 2000. [Hint: Find a, b, and c by substituting each of three ordered pairs into the function and writing and solving a system of linear equations in three variables.] Oy = -0.3x2 + 1.6x + 11.7 y = -0.4x2 + 1.9x + 11.7 Oy = -0.4x2 + 1.8x + 11.7 y = -0.2x2 + 1.4x + 11.7 %3Darrow_forwardIn a class in which the final course grade depends entirely on the average of four equally weighted 100-point tests, Sarah has scored 89, 91, and 83 on the first three.
