Explanation of Solution

The NEC® refers to fluorescent lamps as electric discharge lamps. They have been in use for years and are an outstanding source of light. Light is generated when an electric current at each end of a sealed glass tube is passed via tungsten cathodes. There is an inert gas filling the tube, like argon or krypton. The tube is also filled with mercury in a very small amount. Electrons are released from cathodes and strike mercury vapor particles which lead to the development of ultraviolet radiation, causing the glass tube inside to glow with a phosphorous coating.

Conclusion:

The NEC® refers to a fluorescent lamp as an electric discharge lamp.
