The indication of the small number of craters on Venus is because the entire crust that has been replaced with a new crust in the last half billion years.

Explanation of Solution

Introduction:

In the last half billion of year, the entire crust of the crater has been replaced and the old crust has got covered by the lava that has flowed over it.

It is believed by scientists that the old craters of Venus were covered and filled by massive volcanic events that happened on Venus and erased all the existing craters by filling them with lava. As a result, Venus has a smaller number of the craters than the Earth’s Moon.

Conclusion:

The cratersthat existed on Venus got filled by massive volcanic activities. Hence, Venus has a smaller number of craters as compared to Earth’s Moon.
