The three basic types of three-phase motors are as mentioned below.

  1. 1. Synchronous motors: The AC motor in which the rotation of the shaft can be synchronized by the frequency of the supply current is called Synchronous motor.
  2. 2. Wound rotor induction motors: An induction motor in which rotor winding is connected to external resistance through slip rings is called wound rotor induction motor.
  3. 3. Squirrel cage induction motor: The induction motor in which the rotor being used is shaped in the form of a cage of squirrel is called Squirrel cage induction motor.
