Explanation of Solution

Reduction is the process of gain ofelectrons by a chemical moiety. This results in the lowering of the oxidation stateof the reduced element. The opposite of reduction is oxidation which isregarded as the loss of electrons by a chemical moiety. The element that loseselectrons is said to be oxidized and its oxidation state increases. The processesof oxidation and reduction occur simultaneously, and the reaction is termed asa redox reaction.

Conclusion

Reduction is defined as the gain ofelectrons by an element.
