Summary Introduction

To describe: The difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus refers to a group of metabolic disorders in which the sugar level is high in blood for a prolonged period. During this condition, the beta cells of the pancreas produce little or no insulin. Diabetes mellitus is classified into type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes.

Explanation of Solution

The differences between type 1 and type 2 diabetes are as follows:

Criteria	Type 1 diabetes	Type 2 diabetes
Cause	Type 1 diabetes (insulin-dependent diabetes) is the condition in which the insulin is not produced by the body due to the destruction of beta cells of the pancreas.	The type 2 diabetes (non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus) is caused due to the deficiency of insulin in the blood and insulin resistance.
Type	Autoimmune type	Insulin resistance
Treatment	Diet, exercise, or other change in life style cannot recover this condition. Insulin injection is the treatment for type 1 diabeties.	Diet, exercise, and medication can help the body to produce insulin.
Beta cells	Beta cells have been destroyed.	Beta cells depreciate over time.
