Introduction:

Thyroid gland Is a large gland in the neck which is a cartilage of larynx. It is involved in secretion of hormones that helps in the regulation of body metabolism. Thyroid gland secretes: triidothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). These hormones are important for the metabolism of the body. Also, it is important for the development and growth of the body. It controls the level of iodine in the body. The hormone calcitonin helps in the maintenance of blood calcium level. It plays important role in nerve conduction and muscle contraction. It also lowers the blood calcium level if it rises.

Parathyroid glands are four small glands present in the neck. It helps in the control of calcium level of the body. These glands secrete parathyroid hormone (PTH). This hormone stimulates the activity of osteoclats that helps in the release of calcium ion from the bones. It also promotes the reabsorption of calcium ions by the kidney. This hormone helps in increasing the blood calcium level if it is low.
