To apply: The concept of natural selection to any given adaptation and a logical explanation of how the adaptation may have evolved.
Concept introduction: Natural selection is the cause of evolutionary change that promotes adaptation. Natural selection selects the best fit individuals in the population to survive in order to propagate their genes to the next generation. The weak individuals of the population are eliminated.
