Concept introduction: Parathyroid hormone (PTH) is an important hormone secreted by the parathyroid glands, which helps in the regulation of serum calcium concentration. Hypocalcemia is a condition wherein the calcium levels are decreased in the extracellular fluid. Due to this condition, the permeability and excitability of nerve fibers are highly increased.
