Explanation of Solution

Major differences:

Low–slope roof has the slope value less than 3:12 or 25 %. This roof type is made up of the deck which supports the roof, a vapor retarder, thermal insulation, the roof membrane, flashings and drainage components.

A steep slope roof has the pitch of 25 % or more. Three forms of roof coverings are provided for steep roofs such as thatch, shingles, and architectural sheet metal.

Write the advantages and disadvantages of the low-slope roof and steep roof as follows:

AdvantagesDisadvantages
Low–slope roof
Construction cost is less and has a simple geometry. The membrane used in this roof should be water tight.
Sometimes, these roofs serve as decks, balcony, and landscaped gardens.Small careless performances are not considered as a serious issues and this might lead to the drastic quality issue.
It can cover any horizontal dimension building.Even small construction or design error can leads them to trap standing water puddles
Steep roof
Inexpensive materials are used and they are easy to handle and install. This roof structures are geometrically more complicated. These roofs are constructed to drain quickly providing gravity and wind to push or pull water through the thatch material.
Small damages can be repaired easily. It requires more materials compared to slope roofs of the same span.
The water vapor vents easily in this roof system. It cannot shelter any horizontal dimension building, as it is uneconomically high on a broad building.

A steel, possessing an eutectoid composition, undergoes a gradual cooling process from 800°C to 600°C. Outline the transformation, equilibrium microstructure, and provide approximate component proportions. Describe the resultant non-equilibrium microstructure in two scenarios: a) the steel is rapidly cooled from 800°C to 600°C within 1 s, and then held at such temperature; b) the steel is rapidly cooled from 800°C to 600°C within 1 s, maintained at this temperature for 5 s, and subsequently quenched to room temperature.
