(a) What is the response variable in this experiment?
O A. The score of group 2 on the achievement test
O B. The scores on the achievement tests of both group 1 and group 2
O C. The score of group 1 on the achievement test
O D. The students' ability in art
(b) Is the response variable qualitative or quantitative?
O A. The response variable is qualitative because it is a characteristic.
O B. The response variable is quantitative because it is a measurement.
O C. The response variable is quantitative because it is a characteristic.

Three different milling machines were being considered for purchase by a clothes manufacturing company. The company would be purchasing hundreds of these machines. To make sure it made the best decision, the company borrowed five of each machines which were assigned to 15 technicians. Each machine was put through a series of tasks and was rated using a standardized test. The following data were obtained.
Organizations such as J.D. Power and Associates use the proportion of owners likely to repurchase a particular automobile as an indication of customer loyalty for the automobile. An automobile with a greater proportion of owners likely to repurchase is concluded to have greater customer loyalty.
A study was conducted to compare the customer loyalty for three automobiles: Chevrolet Impala, Ford Fusion, and Honda Accord. The study contained 500 respondents and the data is summarized in the Microsoft Excel Online file below. Use the spreadsheet to perform the required calculations and hypothesis test.

Of the 200 students enrolled in lab classes at Mandrake, 78 have taken the weekend course. Mandrake is evaluating the course's effectiveness by having its lab instructors record harmful lab "incidents": accidents, misuse of lab equipment, etc. The contingency table below gives a summary of the data that have been gathered so far for Mandrake's 200 lab students. Each student is classified according to two variables: status regarding lab techniques course ("Took the course" or "Didn't take the course") and laboratory performance ("Involved in no incident", "Involved in exactly one incident", or "Involved in 2+ incidents"). In the cells of the table are the respective observed frequencies. Note that three of the cells also have blanks. Fill in these blanks with the frequencies expected if the two variables, status regarding lab techniques course and laboratory performance, are…arrow_forward
- A large group of workers is divided into three departments: those who work in special operations, those who work on the main floor, and those who work in management. Strep throat has been going around and a health inspector would like to know if there is a relationship between department and having strep throat. She selects a random sample of 100 workers and classifies each one according to their department and whether they have strep throat. The data are displayed in the table. The health inspector would like to know if these data provide convincing evidence that the distribution of strep throat status differs across the departments in the population of all workers of this large company.
