Introduction:
The cellular respiration is the oxidative breakdown of food particles within the cell, releasing energy and biochemical intermediates. In the process of the cellular respiration, many by-products are released. These products can be used in other processes or it can be excreted out of the body.
Explanation of Solution
In cellular respiration, oxygen is used in glycolysis, Krebs cycle and electron transport chain.
1) Glycolysis- It is partial oxidation of glucose and so oxygen is required for oxidation.
2) Krebs cycle - It is stepwise oxidation and cyclic degradation of activated acetate derived from pyruvate. In this also oxidation occurs and so oxygen is required.
3) Electron transport chain - Oxygen is required in this step too.
In cellular respiration, carbon dioxide is produced in the Krebs cycle. In Krebs cycle oxidation of pyruvate forms carbon dioxide, ATP (adenosine triphosphate), and other products are produced.
Oxygen is used in glycolysis, Krebs cycle, and electron transport chain step in cellular respiration and carbon dioxide are produced in the Krebs cycle step of cellular respiration.
