The atoms consist of electrons, neutrons and protons. The strong nuclear force acts between the electrons, protons and neutrons because the electrons and protons are oppositely charged.
Some forces are also acts between the atoms. One object is made of same type of atoms and other objects made of another type of atoms. The cohesive force acts between the atoms of different objects and an adhesive force act between the same type atoms of an object.
The adhesive force between the atoms of the chair is very strong so that it can withstand the weight of the human body. Thus, this prevents a person from falling through the chair.
