Explanation of Solution
Three technologies used for connecting home computer to the Internet:
- Phone modem
- Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)
- Cable modem
Phone modem:
Phone modem converts the computer data into analog signal to transfer through the telephone line and at the destination; it converts the analog signal to the computer data. Audio signals in phone modem is represented using binary 0 and binary 1.
Advantages of Phone modem:
- It requires only phone connection and does not require any extra equipment to connect to the Internet.
- It is less expensive when compared with other connections.
Disadvantages of Phone modem:
- It is difficult to receive incoming calls and dial up an outgoing call while using Internet.
- Slow transmission rate
- Loading of web pages is slower when compared to broadband connection.
Digital Subscriber Line (DSL):
DSL is a technology that provides high-speed internet access using a broadband modem.
- The speed and availability of DSL service depend on the distance from the telephone company.
- It is used to transfer data, audio, video through the copper phone line.
Advantages of DSL:
- Speed of the DSL is faster than other modem...
