Avatar therapy uses virtual reality technique where a simulated world and virtual avatar is created for the patient who is asked to virtually experience those situations which trigger anxiety and fear. This follows the principle of systematic desensitization technique which helps people to confront difficult situations and people in a safe way. This is also seen to be successful in treating auditory hallucinations.
