Chapter 15, Problem 1RQ
What is the common name for an air flow switch?
Expert Solution & Answer

To determine
The common name of an air flow switch.
Explanation of Solution
Flow switches are the switches that control the operation of an equipment with respect to the flow of liquid or air present in a duct or pipe. The flow switch is generally classified into two, one is liquid flow switch and another one is the air flow switch. The liquid flow switch uses paddle to sense the flow of a liquid in a pipe. The air flow switch uses sail to sense the flow of air in a duct.
Since the air flow switch uses sail to sense air flow, it is also called sail switches. Thus, the common name of an air flow switch is sail switch.

The regenerator has an effectiveness of 79 percent, and the air enters the turbine at 1400 K. Assume constant specific heats for air at room temperature. The properties of air at room temperature are cp = 1.005 kJ/kg·K and k = 1.4. For a turbine efficiency of 90 percent, determine the amount of heat transfer in the regenerator. The amount of heat transfer in the regenerator is kJ/kg.arrow_forward
