Answer to Problem 1QAP

False.

Explanation of Solution

The stars which are closer to the center of the galaxy moves at higher speed and the stars which are far away from the center of the galaxy moves at slow speed.

The hypothesis that the mass and light are distributed in the same way is proved wrong. The rotational velocity of the stars is found to be much higher than the amount of light present in that region. This result concluded that there are some other mass present which contribute for the speed of rotation.

The rotation curve shows that the stars at the end of galaxy also rotate with much higher speed than the luminous mass present there.

Conclusion:

Thus, the given statement is false.
