Summary Introduction
Introduction
An experiment was conducted by David Rosenhan in 1973 to test the validity and reliability of psychiatric diagnosis. Rosenhan along with eight more confederates (pseudopatients), who were mentally healthy, tried to get themselves admitted to psychiatric hospitals with the diagnosis of schizophrenia. This research proved to be useful in disclosing the flaws and loopholes in the classification and diagnostic criteria of mental disorders. However, this study cannot be replicated by ethical standards as it violates several important ethical codes.
