Chapter 14, Problem 4DC
Summary Introduction

Hormones are referred to as chemical messengers secreted by glands in the body. Both endocrine and exocrine glands secrete hormones and they are differentiated by the presence or absence of excretory ducts. Hormones are involved in the regulation of metabolism, growth, development, and homeostasis in the body. Testes and ovaries produce steroid hormones such as testosterone and estrogens, respectively. However, the ovaries produce a very less quantity of testosterone. These steroid hormones regulate reproduction in both male and female. Abnormal secretion of hormones can lead to severe complications, for example, hypersecretion of androgens in women causes hirsutism.
