The trigger and outline the steps for extrinsic clotting and for intrinsic clotting.
Introduction:
The trigger for the activation of the intrinsic and extrinsic pathway includes the stimulus of the damage of the blood vessels and collagen fibers. The extrinsic pathway includes the secretion of the thromboplastin leading to the activation of the factor VII. This factor activates factor X and factor V.
The prothrombin is activated in the liver and converts the fibrinogen to fibrin, which helps in the clotting process. The intrinsic pathways include the activation of the Hageman factor, due to the damaging of the collagen fibers and blood vessels. The next step involves the activation of the factor IX, factor VIII, and factor X.
