Explanation of Solution

The global approaches to personality try to incorporate all aspects of personality while explaining personality. The global aspect of personality was developed through treatment of patients in clinical settings. The theories aimed to change abnormal behavior rather than just describing it. Examples of this approach include psychoanalytic theories and humanistic theories.  The limited domain approaches to personality explain only a few aspects of personality. It was developed through the use of empirical research methods. The theories were aimed at investigating and explaining personality. They were not developed exclusively for treatment purposes. The type A/type B personality theory and the internal/external control theories are examples of limited domain approaches to personality

Conclusion

Global approaches and limited dimension approaches lie on the opposite ends of a continuum on how completely they explain personality. The global approaches provide us theories based in which many treatments are formulated while the limited dimensions approach provide important information on various personality aspects in order to understand personality better.

For today's discussion, I'd like you to take a look at Burch, Burch & Batchelor (2019), which is one of the assigned readings for the week. They discuss group creative process and personality. It's interesting because we have already engaged with personality and creative process in the context of creativity. I'm curious to see any differences or similarities you see between what we've already learned about individual personality and creative process versus group creativity. You're welcome to use other sources to articulate this. Try to provide original responses!
dq2 Our lesson overview this week does a great job of touching on how diversity impacts group creativity, particularly in film. Findings show that films that embody diverse identities and experiences - and filmed by those with diverse identities and experiences - tend to resonate more with audiences. Part of the point the overview makes is that safety is important so that group members feel empowered to share their points of view, particularly if they tend to be parts of less privileged groups. It makes a tangible difference!  Coursey et al. (2020) touch on the fact that "when people from different political perspectives share ideas ... they can come up with creative solutions in contrast to the prevailing tendency to extremism in intergroup interactions" (p. 261). Their article also discusses many facets of creativity in groups in online asynchronous learning environments just like this one! I encourage you to read it.  Why am I telling you all this? We have lots of information out…
