Explanation of Solution

A device that converts the mechanical energy into electrical energy is called as generator. The sources of mechanical energy could be hydraulic turbine, combustion engine, wind turbine, hand crank, and steam engine.

There are two type of generator. These types are as enlisted below.

  1. 1. DC generator
  2. 2. AC generator

The generator which produces DC voltage at the output is called DC generator. The generator which produces AC voltage at the output is called an AC generator.

These generators differ from one another on the basis of the output and the construction of the generator. DC generator has the commutator which converts the AC voltage to DC voltage.
