The ways by which turf grasses grow and also explain the evolution and implication of maintaining these grasses.
Answer to Problem 1QR
Turfgrasses are the low mowing lawn grass, which was earlier used as livestock for grazing animals. These grasses cover the ground as a dense mat. Many chemicals are used for the maintenance of these grasses.
Explanation of Solution
Turfgrasses are low mowing grass that is also known as the cool-season grasses or the lawn grasses. These grasses hold the surface layer of soil by producing acceptable turf. These are narrow-leaved grass species. These species form a consistent ground cover and are tolerant to pollution. These grasses widen into a dense mat even after being grazed by the animals.
Turfgrass was earlier used as livestock for cattle, sheep and other grazing animals but after 1940, it was used for aesthetic purpose. Maintenance of grass involves the use of many chemicals. Insecticide and pesticides are used to maintain and protect these grasses. The excessive use of these chemicals is degrading the environment.
