If X is a discrete random variable with the probability P(x) , then the expected value of X is defined as, μ=E(X)=xx×P(x) .

The expected number of oranges:

μ=E(Oranges)=x=2540xP(x)=25×0.10+30×0.40+35×0.30+40×0.20=2.5+12+10.5+8=33

Hence, the number of expected oranges is 33.
