Stereotyping and categorizing are each pretty common occurrences, which is largely influenced by our perceptions. Stereotypes can be positive or negative, but regardless, it still involves placing people into specific groups. The experience of being evaluated through stereotypes about one’s group can involve any scenario that has someone feeling at risk about being evaluated on the basis of their social identity.
