An interest group is any organization that attempts to influence legislation or policy. Lobbying is the act of persuading lawmakers to adopt the concerns of an interest group. Interest groups provide information and suggestions for legislation to members of Congress. A problem emerges when politicians act more based on the needs of the interest groups or lobbyists and less on behalf of the citizens who elected them.
