The
Ionic bond: The bond formed between metal and non-metal is known as ionic bond. In ionic bonding, the complete transfer of electrons takes place and it generates two oppositely charge ions (positive charged ion and negative charged ion). In simple words, it is an electrostatic attraction present between opposite charge ions.
Covalent bond: The bond in which sharing of electrons takes place between atoms is known as covalent bond.
In terms of electronegativity difference, when the electronegativity difference present between two atoms is less than 2.0, then the bond is covalent whereas if the electronegativity difference present between two atoms is equal to 2.0 or greater than 2.0, then the bond is ionic.
The chemical bond in which electron pairs are unevenly shared between two atoms is known as polar covalent bond. In polar covalent bond, electron pairs are near to one atom (more electronegative) in comparison to other atom. The atom which is more electronegative attracts the electron pairs towards itself and carries partial negative charge and the atom which is less electronegative in the given bond carries partial positive charge.
