HIV virus causes severe immune deficiency in host which leads to other opportunistic infections.

Case summary:

A 40 year old man acquires positive HIV associated with the symptoms, such as abdominal pain, fatigue and low grade fever for 2 weeks. His chest X-ray reveals lung infiltrate and staining shows negative for Gram and acid fast stain. The viral culture of his sputum sample reveals that the causative organisms are large, enveloped polyhedral virus with double stranded DNA.
