Explanation of Solution

Given information,

  AcetaldehydeCH3CHO δCH3CHO=2.20 δCH3CHO=9.80Appliedfield=1.2T

First calculate the resonance frequency for proton,

ν=γNB0=2.6752×108T-1s-1×1.2T2×3.14=0.511×108s-1=51.1MHz(1MHz=106Hz)

Now calculate the local magnetic field difference between the two protons,

δ=ν-ν0ν0×106ν-ν0=δν0×10-6=(δCHO-δCH3)ν0=(9.80-2.20)51.1Hz=388Hz

Therefore, The difference between the local magnetic field of -CH3 and -CHO group in 1.2 T is 388Hz.

Explanation of Solution

Given information,

  AcetaldehydeCH3CHO δCH3CHO=2.20 δCH3CHO=9.80Appliedfield=5.0T

First calculate the resonance frequency for proton,

ν=γNB0=2.6752×108T-1s-1×5.0T2×3.14=2.13×108s-1=213MHz(1MHz=106Hz)

Now calculate the local magnetic field difference between the two protons,

δ=ν-ν0ν0×106ν-ν0=δν0×106=(δCHO-δCH3)ν0=(9.80-2.20)213Hz=1619Hz

Therefore, The difference between the local magnetic field of -CH3 and -CHO group in 5.0T is 1619Hz.
