To determine

a. Bush’s and Gore’s percentage of the total vote. Find out Bush’s percentage margin of victory.

b. If Nader and Buchanan had both dropped out of the election, and Nader voters split their votes 60% to Gore and 40% to Bush while Buchanan voters split their votes 60% to Bush and 40% to Gore, find out the vote totals and outcome.

c. Repeat part (b), but with Nader voters split their votes 51% to 49% to Gore Buchanan voters split their votes 51% to 49% to Bush. Find the vote totals and outcome.

d. Compare Buchanan’s vote percentage in Palm Beach to his statewide vote percentage.

e. Find out the fraction of Buchanan’s vote in Palm Beach County that Gore needed to win the presidency. Buchanan’s own party estimated his support in Palm Beach County at no more than about 0.3%. If the rest of Buchanan’s votes in Palm Beach County had been intended for Gore, whether Gore had won with a better-designed ballot.
