- • If the 5-carbon sugar is a ribose unit, then the overall nucleic acid is known as Ribonucleic Acid which is abbreviated as RNA.
- • If the 5-carbon sugar is a deoxyribose unit, then the overall nucleic acid is known as Deoxyribonucleic Acid which is abbreviated as DNA.
