Summary Introduction

Introduction:

The messages sent by axons are called action potentials. When a neuron is depolarized, that reduces its negative potential towards zero, the potential rises higher, but returns to the resting level as soon as the stimulation is stopped. When a stronger depolarization current is applied, the membrane potential reaches a threshold level of excitation that is beyond zero, producing a major response is called action potential.
