Summary Introduction
The thyroid gland is located in the neck, wraps around the trachea. It is an endocrine gland, produce hormones. Thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) are two types of thyroid hormones. T4 is inactive form and when it is released into the blood, it is converted to active form T3. The thyroid gland requires iodine for the synthesis of thyroid hormones.
