Answer to Problem 1RQ

The U.S. government agency that is responsible for disseminating weather- related information is National Weather Service (NWS).

Explanation of Solution

In the United States, the National weather Services (NWS) has the official voice to issue warning at the time of hazardous and life threatening weather conditions. It is a branch of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). They collect and circulate information related to weather.

The most important service provided by NWS is the forecasts and warnings of hazardous weather. It includes the information related to thunderstorms, hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, winter weather, and extreme heat. According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, 80 percent of all declared emergencies are related to weather. Hence, NWS is under constant pressure to give more accurate and long-range forecasts.
