Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) carrying the genetic information, is a double-helical structure. At the time of the replication, two strands of the DNA unwound from each other. The sole purpose of this mechanism is for the formation of the new strands which are complementary to each other. This is also known as Chargaff’s rule.
