FICA--OASDI Tax: FICA--OASDI stands for Federal Insurance Contributions Act for Old Age, Survivor and Disability Insurance. The purpose of imposition of this tax is to fund the social security programs for old age and disabled people. It is a payroll tax which is withheld by the employer from the salary/wage of the employee and paid on behalf of the employee. The employer makes an equal contribution towards FICA--OASDI tax.
