Concept explainers
To describe:
The sympathetic and parasympathetic nerve pathway.
Introduction:
The nervous system has two divisions:central nervous system (CNS) and peripheral nervous system (PNS). The autonomic nervous system is that part of PNS whose functions are independent and continuous without any conscious effort. The autonomic system is involved in regulation of the activities of cardiac tissue, smooth muscles, or organs. The autonomic system is further divided into the sympathetic division and parasympathetic division. Both division works antagonistically by regulating the body functions by either inhibiting or activating them.
Pictorial representation:
The given picture represents the sympathetic and parasympathetic nerve pathway.
