Introduction

The history of racial segregation led to the creation of ghettos in urban areas. White people mostly moved to the suburbs or rural areas. Middle class blacks usually do not live in predominantly white neighborhoods to avoid the struggle for acceptance. This demonstrates the fact that ascension to upper levels of socioeconomic status does not, in and of itself, eradicate racial barriers for many minority individuals and families.
