Memory Bound System:

A system or program is said to be memory bound if in order to optimize the CPU by optimizing the CPU so that the performance in a particular focused aspect is as desired while the other lesser important aspects can afford to be devoted less attention.

One can increase the performance of the CPU in the following ways:

  • Memory Optimization: The memory management capability of the code can be exploited to its fullest capacity.
  • CPU optimization: The rate of operations performed and the efficiency can be exploited to its fullest capacity.
  • Input-Output Optimization: The I/O operations can be exploited to their fullest potential.

If the performance of the application is constrained by any of the above factors then it is said to be bound to the CPU, the memory or its input output operations.

Memory bound generally means that the memory of the system is limited and it is not sufficient to handle an unlimited amount of requests without the need for supplements.
