Stepwise acid base reaction of piperazine and phthalate ion in water has to be given. Also, correct symbol of equilibrium constant and its numerical value has to be determined.

Concept Introduction:

Ionic product of water is denoted by $K_{\text{w}}$ and is expressed as follows:

  $K_{\text{w}}=K_{\text{a}}{K}_{\text{b}}$

Here,

$K_{\text{a}}$ is acid equilibrium constant.

$K_{\text{b}}$ is base equilibrium constant.

$\text{pH}$ of solution is defined as the negative logarithm of concentration of ${\text{H}}^{+}$. It is expressed as follows:

  $\text{pH}=-\text{log}\left[{\text{H}}^{+}\right]$
