Psychopaths display a constellation of traits that render them a dangerous group of individuals. While psychopaths live among us, many can be found within the criminal justice system. In fact, many have a history of violent behavior in general, and sexual aggression in particular. Some research has suggested that psychopaths have difficulty distinguishing the emotions displayed in facial expressions and also attribute hostile intentions to innocuous situations. These patterns have been thought to contribute to the violence psychopaths display. In this study, the researcher presents a short video clip of a person describing a situation that is either innocuous or aggressive while displaying either a fearful or angry facial expression. Twenty psychopaths (n=20) are recruited to participate and are asked to identify their response by selecting it on the computer screen. Their response time (in seconds) is being measured in order to determine if psychopaths respond differently depending on…

A similar survey of 140 jobseekers, conducted three years ago, had found that 58 jobseekers had used LinkedIn for their job search. (You may find it useful to reference the appropriate table: z table or t table)Let p1 represent the population proportion of recent jobseekers and p2 the population proportion of job seekers three years ago. a. Set up the hypotheses to test whether there is sufficient evidence to suggest that more people are now using LinkedIn to search for jobs as compared to three years ago. multiple choice 1 H0: p1 − p2 = 0; HA: p1 − p2 ≠ 0 H0: p1 − p2 ≤ 0; HA: p1 − p2 > 0 H0: p1 − p2 ≥ 0; HA: p1 − p2 < 0…arrow_forwardA researcher is interested in examining whether the location that a person lives is related to the number of hours that they spend on the internet each week. The researcher collected data from a sample of 30 participants who were classified in one of three groups: (1) 10 people who live in an urban setting, (2) 10 people who live in a suburban setting, and (3) 10 people who live in a rural setting. Each participant reported the number of hours they spend on the internet in a typical week (the dependent variable). The researcher found the following descriptive statistics: Urban participants reported an average of 8.9 hours of internet use per week with a standard deviation of 2.77. Suburban participants reported an average of 12.7 hours of internet use per week with a standard deviation of 4.88. Rural participants reported an average of 9.8 hours of internet use per week with a standard deviation of 2.82. - A study investigated the relationship between audit delay and variables that describe the client and the auditor. The file Audit contains data from a sample of 40 companies on the following set of variables: Delay: The length of time from a company's fiscal year-end to the date of the auditor's report. Industry: A dummy variable coded 1 if the firm was an industrial company or 0 if the firm was a bank, savings and loan, or insurance company. This clinician is interested in the impact of attachment style on a person’s perceptions of their mothers. The researcher administered an attachment style questionnaire to 18 participants and based on the results categorized them into one of 3 distinct groups: secure, avoidant, or anxious. Those that are securely attached easily get close to others while those that are avoidant tend to value independence and freedom and those that are anxious have difficulties trusting others. The researcher then asks all participants to rate their mothers on a scale measuring the degree to which they perceive their mother to be malevolent (spiteful) with higher scores meaning higher malevolence. The results are presented in Table 3. Using the 0.05 alpha level and all the steps of hypothesis testing, is there a significant difference in perceptions of their mother’s malevolence depending on how attached they are? secure…arrow_forwardA Harris Interactive poll reported that 32.4% of 275 randomly selected Americans living in the west stated that they attend church regularly.
